I'm Aimée
Born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, in a house filled with music and a piano that would give me joy and passion.
Raised in Kitchener, Ontario, by my mom who quilts exceptionally and my dad who loves music. I grew fond of our piano at a young age and began Conservatory lessons. Discovering an emotive style of playing, I learned to play by ear. This brings comfort, should my severe Myopia cause me loss of vision, I will always play piano.
The pandemic forced my hair salon to close for months allowing me to explore new artistic ideas. Coincidently, my sister was disposing of an old piano I couldn’t bear to see go to waste. Attracted to the
keys and pedals, I removed them to create. I spent weeks pondering what those keys represent in my mind. Needing to add colour, I used my mother’s and my shared love of fabric to bring the auditory experience of music into the visual realm.
Countless hours of experimenting landed me a technique of designing, assembling and wrapping the keys of many pianos that would have otherwise gone to landfill. Giving them new life, each piece
represents music in my mind’s eye.
